If I told that you that,
so far, 2016 has been my least "accomplished" (if not most challenging) year and yet the one in which I've felt the most power, what would you say?
Well, since I don't know when we'll get to have this chat, let me tell you what I think you'd say....
How can you feel powerful without accomplishing anything, isn't that counter-intuitive?
Why yes, it certainly seems so.
For a person who's thrived on collecting impressive professional titles and accolades, I have to say that redefining what gives my actions meaning has been the single most grand accomplishment of this year.
What's a law degree if you can't relate to the person sitting next to you?
What's having a book on amazon if you can't feel at peace upon laying down to sleep?
What's having a fat checking account if you're constantly in victim mode and disconnected from the power of your real Self?
We are officially smack in the middle of this year; I'd like to invite you to look back on it:
What have been your most meaningful accomplishments?
They might not mean much to anyone else; but they represent something big to YOU.
In a time where we're constantly struggling to prove our worth to ourselves, taking inventory of the simple things that give us a sense of accomplishment is where the money is at... Whether that's in being more patient with the rude customer service rep, putting aside five minutes for self-care, or sharing a heartfelt laugh with a co-worker... value is created in the moment.
Such are the unsung heroes of our day; and to my surprise, no previous "accomplishment" has gifted me with the ease, grace and joy that these tiny moments of meaning have.
Our value is not defined by our income, social status or physical appearance, no; not by a long shot. What is it defined by...well, that's up to us.
